Here's another one of my hair brained ideas. I wasn't a huge fan of the cheap looking MST center caps. MST isn't exactly the pinnacle of wheel development, know what I mean? I found a guy on Etsy selling 1.75" aluminum blanks, exactly the ID of the outer center cap. I used a heat gun to remove the original center caps and once I knew that would work and that the aluminum blanks fit perfectly, it was on. I ordered 5 of the blanks so I could practice on one or have one to mess up. First I was thinking I would engrave the ES Design logo into them then paint them read so the logo would be embossed and subtly visible. I later found that you need around 100w engraving machine and it was going to be a pain to learn how to use one just for this so I scrapped that plan. I had already painted them red at this point to see what it would look like. Next I had a plan to get custom stickers of the old Mazda logo, stick them to the aluminum blanks and paint black around them, then peal them off exposing the red underneath. I did a test on the extra blank I had and had trouble pealing off the sticker cleanly. I decided in the end to just paint over the stickers with red. I did this then decided to spray them black, put another set of the same stickers on top, and then spray clear over top of those. Somehow after all that they actually turned out pretty cool looking.
